Economics Has Consequences: Liberty, Tyranny, and the Impact on Christianity

image

Last year we told you about R.C. Sproul Jr.’s 12-part teaching series and curriculum, Economics for Everybody. We are now pleased to announce the documentary, Economics Has Consequences, an abridged version of the original 12-part series.

In this uniquely entertaining exploration of economics, R.C. Sproul Jr. introduces basic principles of economics such as stewardship, civil government, work, wealth, and entrepreneurism. He then explores the impact of government intervention on education, the money supply, welfare, depressions, markets, and more. With each succeeding example, it becomes evident that economic freedom is directly related to religious freedom, and that the loss of one inevitably leads to the loss of the other.

“Where the original series is great for small groups, Sunday schools, and students, the abridged documentary is perfect for a single session at a church, an evening’s entertainment for a family, or an individual wanting a quick intro to economics.” —Compass Cinema

The imbroglio over Louie Giglio is the clearest evidence of the new Moral McCarthyism of our sexually “tolerant” age. During the infamous McCarthy hearings, witnesses would be asked, “Are you now or have you ever been a member of the Communist Party?”

In the version now to be employed by the Presidential Inaugural Committee, the question will be: “Are you now or have you ever been one who believes that homosexuality (or bisexuality, or transsexualism, etc.) is anything less than morally acceptable and worthy of celebration?”

Louie Giglio and the New State Church

President Obama kicked up some controversy by announcing that evangelical pastor Louie Giglio would be praying at the inauguration. Sexual liberationist groups quickly identified Giglio, as they did Rick Warren under similar circumstances in 2009, as “anti-gay.” After a couple of days of…

That’s when skin bursts from touch, turning into bloody wounds that don’t heal. There was no future for Anton in Russia. But in march of 2012 he was adopted by an American familyHe now has a mother, a father, a brother and a sister. Although he may never recover, a regular kid’s happy childhood for him – is not just an empty sound or an “American dream” – but every morning when he wakes up in his loving family.Members of the Russian Parliament! You will be asked to give a «symmetrical response” to Americans today – deprive thousands of sick Russian children of their happy childhood and future. There are approximately 1800 kids just as sick as Anton in Russia. Would you take them into your families???”

“lesser of two evils”… First, we should be careful with the cliché itself. Even if, to use the most obvious example, Romney and Obama seem like lame choices to you, is it really the case that both are positive “evils”? I strongly disagree with each of them on certain matters of policy and theology, but before we describe every choice with this well-worn aphorism, we should consider what words we have left for the Stalins and Hitlers of the world if two decent family men can be reduced to nothing but “two evils.”

Second, we should realize that if we vote at all we are voting for less than our ideal candidate. As long as Jesus isn’t on the ballot every Christian is voting for someone less than our perfect candidate. And, no, this does not mean we should literally vote for Jesus as President. It’s a stunt that accomplishes nothing except for impressing people who are too easily impressed.
